Day 1

Kilimanjaro/Arusha

On arrival this evening at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by a Lion World Travel representative and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Located on the outskirts of Arusha, hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations.  

All chalets have an en-suite bathroom. mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling fans, safes, and hairdryers.

Fly to the Tarangire National Park, one of the most exciting parks in the country. Take a scenic drive takes you to Tarangire Treetops, Located on the eastern border of Tarangire National Park.

Tarangire National Park

Capture an enchanting moment unfolding as the sun gracefully descends Tarangire National Park. Below the horizon, the silhouette of a baobab tree emerges against the vibrant canvas of the sky.  

Drive to Gibbs Farm for lunch. Overlooking the coffee fields and surrounded by terraced flower gardens and ancient trees, a visit to Gibb’s Farm provides the opportunity to experience nature first-hand.  

After lunch continue to TNS Ngorongoro Rim Lodge located on the Eastern Crater Rim of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Rooms face the Ngorongoro Crater and have Wi-Fi access, ceiling fan, indoor shower, bathtub, hair dryer and in room safe, mosquito net and a balcony facing the Ngorongoro Crater. This lodge is Eco-friendly and uses solar power.

Ngorongoro  Crater

Descend from the crater rim into the heart of this geological wonder, where a panorama of sweeping plains, dense forests, and glistening lakes unfolds before you.  

After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time.  

Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a freshwater lake, and a glorious variety of birdlife. Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ - Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard - as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators.

Game Drive in the Crater

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the crater, then continue with afternoon game viewing. Within this enormous natural bowl, is the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa. 

 

Fly to the Serengeti and transfer to your camp which has been carefully chosen for the best possibility of witnessing the Great Migration. 

January to March & December: Fly from Manyara to Southern Serengeti. Stay at the remote Sanctuary Kichakani Camp in the Southern Serengeti. The camp overlooks plains where game are seen all year round and the migrating wildebeest and zebra congregate between December and March. Spacious open-plan tents, with large private verandas and personal attendants to cater to your every need. 

April to May: fly from Manyara to Central Serengeti. Serengeti Pioneer Camp is in South Central Serengeti and ideally situated for terrific access to the annual migration. Tents with amazing views, luxury rooms combined with exemplary service and exceptional game viewing opportuniti

June to July: Fly from Manyara to Western Serengeti. Asanja Grumeti is a luxury tented camp located in the Western corridor of the Serengeti and plays host to the most amazing wildlife spectacle in East Africa. Every year, thousands of Wildebeest take a plunge to cross the waters of the Grumeti River.

August to November: Fly from Manyara to Northern Serengeti. The 5-star Taasa Lodge is in a private concession in the Serengeti National Park, ensuring that you will see wildlife as nature intended and without the masses of tourists. The spacious en-suite tents offer stunning views.

  • Your Lion World Travel safari includes a “meet and greet” upon arrival. While on safari you will have local experts, rangers, drivers and/or trackers join you on your day tours, game drives and safari activities.
  • *​International Air Included Safaris: Please note that airfares are included on selected safaris only, as noted in the safari "inclusions". Pricing on these safaris includes airfares, fuel surcharges, Government taxes, departure fees, and September 11th Security fee.
  • ​Travel to Africa often requires an overnight flight. For safaris where international airfare is not included, please arrange flights to arrive on Day 1 of itinerary.

Visas

  • United States of America passport holders require visas for Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Visas should be obtained prior to departure either on-line or from the relevant Embassy or High Commission in Washington DC. Visas on arrival will not be issued for Kenya.

Passports

  • For visitors to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, and Tanzania, passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the intended return date.
  • Passport must contain at least 2 blank visa pages (each) for South Africa and Zimbabwe and 3 blank visa pages (each) for Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique.

Vaccinations & Health Precautions

  • Malaria is prevalent in the countries included in this itinerary. It is recommended to consult a doctor or travel clinic prior to travel regarding the appropriate precautions to take.
  • Yellow fever vaccination is recommended prior to arrival in Tanzania and required if arriving within 6 days after leaving or transiting countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
  • Other vaccinations that might be considered before you travel include typhoid, hepatitis A and B, meningitis, and tetanus.
  • For information, visit your family physician or the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at www.cdc.gov/travel/.
  • Covid protocols and entry requirements are also in place for visitors to Africa. Requirements vary between countries. Please speak to your Africa Specialist for information specific to your itinerary.

Traveling with children

  • If you are traveling to South Africa with a child/children under the age of 18 you must travel with an unabridged birth certificate, in English, even if both parents are traveling with the child(ren). Airlines will be forced to deny boarding if the required documentation is not produced.
